Terms of Service
Last updated 19 August 2026
Short version: use Cove for lawful purposes, keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose, and understand that it is provided without warranty.
The agreement
By creating an account or using Cove, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Your account
You are responsible for your account password and for any activity under your account. Cove cannot recover your account password — it is stored as a one-way hash and no one, including the operator, can read it back.
You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Store material you have no right to possess, or use the service to further unlawful activity.
- Upload malware, or attempt to use file storage as a delivery mechanism for it.
- Attempt to access another account, or probe, scan, or disrupt the service or its infrastructure.
- Automate access in a way that degrades the service for others.
Availability and your backups
The service is provided on an as-is, as-available basis, with no uptime guarantee. Features may change or be withdrawn.
Keep independent backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. This matters more than usual for a vault: if the operator loses the encryption key, the stored data becomes permanently unreadable, and no amount of database access will recover it.
Warranty and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cove is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the service.
Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. The operator may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.
Changes
These terms may be updated; the date at the top of this page reflects the current version. Continuing to use the service after a change constitutes acceptance of it.
